The 2025 World Beer Cup—often called the "Olympics of Beer"—was held today, drawing in breweries from around the world into a celebration of craftsmanship and competition. With 8,375 beers submitted from 1,761 breweries across 49 countries, this year’s event was one of the most competitive yet, featuring 112 beer style categories judged by 265 experts from 37 countries.
Amid this global showcase, Canadian breweries proudly brought home a strong collection of medals, proving once again that our nation can drop the gloves in the world of craft beer.
Canadian Breweries At the 2025 World Beer Cup-
Not Every Brewery Can Enter — and That Matters
It’s worth noting that not every brewery in Canada enters the World Beer Cup. The costs, international shipping logistics, and administrative requirements can be a hurdle—especially for small, independently owned breweries. Many of these local businesses create world-class beer but don’t have the resources to compete internationally.
That’s why it’s so important to support your local breweries. These are operations built on dreams, long hours, and a deep passion for craft. Whether or not they win global medals, their impact on Canadian beer culture is immeasurable.
A Truly Global Competition
This year’s competition drew entries from every corner of the world—Buenos Aires, Japan, Australia, Europe, and beyond. Small and medium sized breweries found themselves competing against heavyweights like Tsingtao, Sierra Nevada, and Deschutes. It is inspiring to see underdogs take the stage alongside legendary names.
One thing we noticed while watching the livestream: although the crowd erupted for most winners, it was noticeably quiet when Canadian breweries were announced. Maybe it’s just how it came through on the stream—but to us, it felt like Canada’s wins didn’t get the celebration they deserved. So let’s change that here.
